The Department of Electrical Engineering at Ferdowsi University was established as the second department of its engineering school in 1979 with a focus on electronics. In 1986 and 1987, master’s programs in power and control engineering were initiated respectively. Likewise, admission of students to the master’s programs in communication and electronic engineering started in 1993 and 1997 respectively. Finally, the master's program in bioelectric engineering was established in 2011.
The Department of Electrical Engineering has been admitting PhD students since 1979. The first group of these students graduated in 2001.
Now (the year 2023), the Department of Electrical Engineering at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad is offering a bachelor’s degree with a major in electrical engineering, and master’s and doctorate degrees in five different minors: "electronics engineering", "power engineering", "control engineering", "communications engineering", and "bioelectric engineering".
